Combative Team LottoNL-Jumbo in final stage BinckBankTour

Team LottoNL-Jumbo has animated the final stage of the BinckBankTour. In the stage to Geraardsbergen, Dylan Groenewegen was the first one to attack. In the final Paul Martens attacked too, but he got caught within twenty kilometres from the finish line.

Team captain Paul Martens ended his BinckBankTour with a good feeling. “I felt I had to make up for yesterday’s race when I wasn’t feeling well. That had really upset me. Especially because the stage went through my own region. Today, I made up for it a bit by showing myself in the final. I really went for it and gave everything I had. Looking back at this week, it wasn’t the week we had hoped for. It’s an important race for the team and it didn’t turn out the way we wanted in the sprints. That’s a pity.”

Sports director Nico Verhoeven saw a very combative team today. “We had planned to ride offensively. But racing a final is part of that too and we only partially succeeded. It took a long time before a leading group was established. When this finally was the case, we had Dylan in the breakaway. But they never got a big enough lead, so you know it’s going to be difficult. The team was very eager to be in a breakaway and to get into the final of the race. Our riders have given more than one hundred percent, but we could not go with the best at the decisive moments.”
